SALONE DEL MOBILE 2024: SUSTAINABILITY AT CENTER

SALONE DEL MOBILE 2024: La sostenibilità al centro

Sustainability, but also innovation, materiality, sharing and multifunctionality.
Here is the Top 5 of the great Milan Design Week.

This year, the Salone del Mobile focused very strongly on the theme of sustainability,
proposing it in all its facets. Many brands based their research on the
use of particular materials and processes, combining material research with
sustainable design. Great work has been done in this sense by Arper. The
iconic Catifa 53 chair designed in 2001 by the trio of architects and designers
Lievore-Altherr-Molina was presented this year in the new Catifa Carta version,
based, as the name suggests, on research into the reuse of wood waste, resulting
in PaperShell, a material composed of 29 layers of recycled paper and natural
resin. At the end of its life cycle, the material can be reduced to charcoal for
a truly carbon-free footprint and circular design.

When we talk about innovation nowadays, we also have to talk about technology. This is the leitmotiv of EuroCucina and its side event FTK - Technology For the Kitchen. The Elica brand, in this sense, presented a preview of one of the most innovative products of this edition. It is Lhov, and as its slogan states, ‘The appliance that wasn’t there? Now there is one’. Oven, hob, extractor hood: the first all-in-one product on the market where, thanks to the modular nature of the activated charcoal filter capable of treating for the first time even the fumes coming from the oven, the flexibility of the design is given by the technological element itself, guaranteeing practically infinite freedom of installation.
